I have the phone side functioning but due to the lag it isn't really usable. After you type in your text and hit Speak there is a 5 second delay until the speech is actually heard. I will readily admit that this may be due to my implementation and have posted some questions for the people who know this subject. If it turns out I have implemented it correctly then I see two possible paths forward.
- Use a speaker phone or headset to listen. A computer equipped with a voice modem and Silver Tongue would be the voice while a regular phone is used to listen. The advantages are that doesn't cost anything and I can have it ready in a matter of minutes. The disadvantage is the requirement of a normal phone and the ability to use it to listen.
- Require a higher end full duplex modem. I believe the problems I'm having are due to the capabilities of the modem itself (could be me). If so there is a modem which I believe will allow smooth operation. The advantages are that the phone and conversation could be controlled entirely from the computer with no need for another phone. The disadvantage is that the modem costs $250.
So while I wait for some answers on that subject I'm going to start working on remote control functionality with a USB UIRT and let the phone rest.
